This is one of those out-of-place, what-the-hell images that I don’t have anywhere near enough of.  I was driving near Acton, California very late in the day.  The sun was just beginning to set on the mountainous desert there.  As I cruised past a very narrow dirt road leading up a hill, I saw a sailboat there.

Acton is 50 miles or so north of Los Angeles.  And it is in no way near water of any type.  Not a lake, not a pond, not even a creek.  It’s a solid 75 miles from the ocean and there is simply no reason for this sailboat to be there.  Adding in the unusual nature of the situation, the narrow dirt road doesn’t actually lead anywhere.  It isn’t a driveway, it isn’t a path to someone’s house, it’s literally a dirt road that goes to a sailboat.  On the side of a mountain. In the middle of the desert. It’s just plain bizarre.
