Rapture Over Riverside

  • Location: Riverside, Illinois

This is another photo of mine that’s validity is often questioned. “It has to be edited in Photoshopped,” I’m constantly told. And it is. There used to be a white car parked in front of the Riverside (Illinois) Town Hall that I removed. Everything else is wildly real.

I’m Facebook friends with a guy who lives just west of Aurora, Illinois. He took some crazy looking photos of a storm front that was coming in and posted them on Facebook. I saw them half an hour after he posted them; just enough time to get my camera and head outside to shoot the front as it began to move into Riverside.

When I stepped outside, the first thing I saw was a series of dark lines in the sky. It was almost like a line was drawn between the the good and bad weather.  You can see that line here.  When the storm passed overhead, it was downright eerie. Not only did everything have a yellowish tint, but the clouds looked like what you would see if you dove under a breaking wave and looked up towards the sky. Two minutes after I took this picture, it started pouring. Fifteen minutes later, the front had passed through and everything was back to normal.
