The Dock

I took this photo in someone’s backyard.  When these people look out their kitchen window, *this* is what they see.  THIS!  When I look out my back window, I see an auto mechanic’s shop.  These people get large trees growing out of an expanse of water that extends as far as the eye can see.

The funny part of this shot was that when I was given permission to shoot in the backyard, the woman who lived there kept pushing me to shoot a brand new, all white dock that looked kind of like it was made out of PVC pipe.  “Why do you want to shoot that old thing?” she asked of the rotting dock in this image.  At a certain point, she almost pulled me to the new dock so that I’d stop taking pictures of the old one.  I dutifully fired off a few shots to appease her and prayed that I managed to get something good in the 45 seconds I was able to shoot the old, wooden dock.
