This is an insanely hard photo to get for a number of reasons.  If you’re reading this, you’re probably looking at the photo and asking yourself, “What is unique about this?”  The short answer to that question is this: in order for this to work, Maddie has to believable be in two places at the same time.  She has to be on set, posing, aware of her angles and light sources and she has to be in a passionate embrace with Haesi.

What makes this photo work to the degree that it does is the fact that it looks like Maddie took a break from making out with Haesi to glance into camera and it was at that precise moment that I happened to shoot this image.  Only, the whole thing is wildly staged.

Aside from Maddie having to occupy two head spaces at the same time and not appear creeped out by some photographer taking pictures of her at this time, we had a practical issue to deal with as well.  Haesi is a solid four inches taller than Maddie… in heels.  So, in order for his shoulder not to block Maddie’s face, he had to scoot down.  If you saw a wide shot of this pose, you’d see that Haesi’s legs were comedically far open and that his two feet were about three feet away from one another.  I know it felt ridiculous because Haesi thought I was joking when I instructed him to get into that stance.
