About Share PurchaseFor years, I did studio shoots that were well lit with white backgrounds. It looked like I was shooting in a studio. As my career progressed though, I began to find myself more and more attracted to the dark, the shadowy and supreme contrasts in color and light. I started working with weaker and weaker lights–some of the lights that I used to shoot with are so powerful, I literally cannot use them in small or medium sized rooms–and seeing what the results were.
On this shoot with Victor Kolyszko, I was highlighting his extremely long hair (for him). Working with hair stylist extraordinaire, Val Kozlovitser, I asked to have it poofed up to an almost insane degree. And this is pretty insane. With one lone light highlighting Victor’s right side, I shot this. I love this photo and the supreme amounts of energy that are derived from the almost completely dark studio.
