26th Street Looking South into Riverside
About Share PurchaseWhen I began looking through the images I shot of Riverside and the surrounding areas from the air, the element of them that surprised me the most was the way that the horizon was essentially glowing blue. My first thought was that I’d done something wrong while shooting; I hit a button I shouldn’t have and changed the color temperature or put on a filter I had forgotten to take off. However, that wasn’t the case: the rest of the photo looks the way it should.
That’s when I realized that the horizon was glowing blue because, while up in the air on a day with huge clouds and a bright blue sky, the horizon was, in fact, glowing blue. It’s very reminiscent of the same type of blue glow that you see around the earth in photos that are taken from space.
The street running along the bottom of the photo is 26th Street; the intersection to the very right of the picture is 26th and Des Plaines. The Riverside Water Tower is visible, though just barely, in the middle left of the image. It really is interesting to see how jarring the change is from the grid system to Riverside’s winding, decidedly non-straight streets.
