Frozen
About Share PurchaseThe 2013-2014 winter in Chicago was a brutal winter. January alone had nine days with sub-zero temperatures. If there is a positive to that kind of oppressive cold, it comes near the water. That’s where all kinds of crazy ice formations are created in a panoply of different colors.
I drove down to the North Avenue Beach one afternoon to shoot and saw that the entirety of the lakefront path, from North Avenue to Oak Street, was iced in. The majority of the lake there was frozen solid as well. There was one crescent shaped area near the retaining wall that, while still frozen, didn’t have any snow on top of it. The ice there was an almost eerie shade of blue. I picked my way as close to the water as I could and then shot the skyline. This is the result of that.
Even months later, in the dead of summer, this doesn’t look any more appetizing than it did then.
