Hell
About Share PurchaseThis is about as close to hell as I can imagine.
I was location scouting for a fashion shoot I was doing, headed into a subdivision in order to turn around and then saw this. The subdivision was relatively new and it was effectively plopped down in the middle of a corn field. With the sky the same color as the ground, the two blended together to make it appear that a greyish snow was visible as far as the eye could see. It was like an infinity pool of the most downtrodden landscape you could ever imagine. Coupled with the fact that all the houses appeared to be built from the same set of blue prints, I couldn’t stop marveling at how depressing the whole thing was. Not only wasn’t there any individuality in the houses, but there wasn’t anything individual about the landscape either; it was just a greyish white that never seemed to end.
(If you want a cherry on the top of this horrible sundae, it’s that this subdivision was located mere blocks from the Stateville Prison. If prison officials needed to borrow a cup of sugar, these houses were the closest ones to the prison). I do love this photo though. It really creates an atmosphere.
