Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow
About Share PurchaseThe Riverside Town Hall is a gothic monument and a true architectural presence in the middle of downtown Riverside. It’s also ridiculously unphotogenic. Whether it’s the buildings colors–a drab tan that is matched with a lighter tan–the blotchy green copper gutters and roofing fixtures or the water streaked roof, the Riverside Town Hall does not photograph well. That’s why you almost never see it as the subject of any photos I take. Sometimes it “accidentally” gets in the background, but for all intents and purposes, I go out of my way not to take pictures of it.
That’s why, unless there are some really unusual circumstances–the sky is a weird yellow and makes the town hall look sepia, or there is a police car going by with its lights flashing–you’re not going to see the Riverside Town Hall as the focus of any of my photos. (It really needs a bright red somewhere to make it work… hence the reason the police car’s mars lights made the photo).
The clock tower, however, is another matter. That is a thing of beauty. Day or night or rain or shine. It’s always beautiful. Here it’s beautiful in the middle of what I will conservatively call a blizzard. Probably the most impressive part of this image is that none of the snow landed on my lens. I wish I knew how I managed to avoid that.
