Madeleine Harper and the Fire Damaged Building
About Share PurchaseI recently found a building that had had a major fire in it and was boarded up. This wouldn’t be noteworthy except for the part where one of the boards in the building’s windows had come loose, allowing would-be trespassers a good way into into said building. And *that* makes it noteworthy indeed.
I shot at this building and got some otherworldly images from it, like this one. As abandoned buildings go, this one was interesting because 1) it had fire damage, 2) construction workers had built several weird, wooden braces for the ceiling in places so it wouldn’t collapse, and 3) the majority of the building looked in strikingly good condition. Sure doors were off their hinges and there were some big chunks of dry wall on the floor, but the majority of the rooms looked as though there was nothing seriously wrong with them. I highly doubt you’d know that we were shooting in a condemned building from the looks of this image.
Naturally, the room that was in the worst condition, the one with the suffered from the most fire damage and had the most insulation and otherwise squishy stuff on the floor, was the room with the open window to the outside; the only room we had to traipse through twice. No one said photography was easy.
