Rum Point Paradise
About Share PurchaseWhen people close their eyes and think of Caribbean paradise, I’m pretty sure they see the beaches near Rum Point in the Cayman Islands. Puffy white clouds, clear blue water and an air temperature near 85, make this near heaven. I cannot see this photo without wondering why I don’t live there. Granted, this usually happens during January in Chicago, but I digress.
As I walked along the beach front by Rum Point around midday, I bumped into one guy who lived there. He was walking from his house out to the water holding a fishing rod. I asked him what he was doing and he told me, “I’m going to catch lunch.” Ten minutes later, I saw him walking back to his house with a large fish in tow. When I told the model I was traveling with about this, she sighed and said, “Back home, it takes longer than that for me to get McDonald’s.”
Anyway, this is life along the coast near Rum Point. Where you go out and catch your own seafood for lunch. That may well be the community slogan.
