Ships in Wanchese, North Carolina
About Share PurchaseSeveral years ago, I chartered a boat in North Carolina to survey hurricane damage to the Outer Banks. The lone highway to lead to the outer towns of Rodanthe, Avon, Buxton and Frisco (among others), Highway 12, had been wiped out by the storm and the island(s) were only accessible by boat.
On the way out of the harbor at Wanchese, I took this shot of three boats that were docked. And the reason I took it is simply: the scene involved the color red. Red is a funny color because it makes photos look great and it almost never occurs naturally in any environment. Flowers, changing leaves and sunsets are really the only places you’ll ever seen red with any degree of regularity. It’s never at the beach, in the mountains or the forests. As such, whenever I see big swatches of red while I am out-and-about, I always try to shoot them. This was how I ended up with this image of the Capt. Fella and friends.
