Spotlight on Victor and Lauren
About Share PurchaseI was shooting at night with Victor Kolyszko and Lauren Rebecca Roth in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. As we were walking back to our staging area, we ducked into an alley to save a little time. As I looked straight down the barrel of the alley, this was the image I saw, minus Victor and Lauren. It was a glorious dark, urban backdrop with an intensely bright spotlight shining down on on one section. Somehow, we lucked out and there were no cars parked in front of the light. It was the only section on the entire block where there was a double space open.
I had Victor and Lauren walk into the flowerbed and set up underneath the light. They ignored the heat of the light, the bugs circling it and the fact that they were almost always sinking into the dirt in the flower bed and absolutely nailed this shot. Part of what I like about this shot so much is the way that the dark surrounding Victor and Lauren starts to get lighter the more you look at it; the other part that I like so much is that the way Victor and Lauren are standing reminds me of the pose with Belle and the Beast on the Beauty and the Beast poster.
There is a closer version of this photo of Victor and Lauren that captures a much different energy than this one. I consider the two almost a pair. You can see the other version here.
