The Caribbean in Wide Screen
About Share PurchaseI was down in the Cayman Islands doing some fashion shoots and during my down time would grab my camera and drive around the island(s). Grand Cayman is the main island and it’s not that big; 35 miles from one end of the island to the other, long ways. Despite the small size of the island, there are literally dozens upon dozens of random beaches that you can stop at. Just park your car by the side of the road and walk over. This was one of those beaches.
The beaches are all gorgeous and all look very much like postcards. As a photographer, there’s very little that I have to do to make photos of the Cayman Islands’ geography look like a tropical paradise; it is a tropical paradise. Nonetheless, my favorite shot that I got from that day of shooting is this one. The only one image I got that distinctly does not look part of a tourism campaign.
The reason for this, I suspect, is that the gazebo in which I was standing when I shot this, makes the Caribbean Sea look like it’s in widescreen. The colorful bars on the top and bottom of your screen are supposed to be there! They just frame everything so nicely. As usual, it all comes back to the rule of thirds…
