The Dandelion at Sunset
About Share PurchaseFor obvious reasons, people are always entertained by the times I hurt myself while shooting. And these times are many and myriad. I’ve been run over by a car, chased by an alligator, attacked by a man doing jumping jacks and broken up a dogfight to get photos. However, none of these instances came close to delivering the pain that I received here.
This was shot in Randolph, Wisconsin at dusk. I was standing behind an auto body repair shop, saw a field of dandelions with the setting sun behind them and thought it would make a great photo. The only problem was that to get the image right, I had to get low to the ground. Very low. With time running out before the sun set, I had to jam my face into the ground to get the camera as low as possible, effectively digging a hole with my cheek. When I stood up, there were sharp bits of gravel embedded up and down my face that hurt like hell. Fortunately, the photo turned out beautifully.
