The Library in Winter
About Share PurchaseIt’s never a good idea to shoot in rain or, to a lesser degree, snow. The water lands on your camera and water and expensive electronic equipment just don’t go together. However, there are times when you’re out and shooting, it starts to snow and you take a couple of photos before you put your camera away. This is one of those photos.
This is a very nice photo of the Riverside Library that is made better precisely because of the snow that had fallen onto the lens. The circles on the roof of the library are very small water droplets on the lens (because they’re so close to the camera, the lens doesn’t focus on them and the light that goes through them registers slightly differently than the rest of the photo). They add a certain texture to the image that I think makes it pop. That said, I’m never going to shoot in the rain or snow again if I can help it.
