The Other Side of the Bridge
About Share PurchaseThe other side of the Swinging Bridge is no man’s land, called Riverside Lawn. The territory back there is unincorporated and, rumor has it, the county is looking at buying out the homes back there and turning the whole area into a park. Sure, it’d be a park that floods heavily once a year, but I digress.
There is a lovely path through a forest that leads from the bridge to Riverside Lawn. During the day, it’s a thing of beauty. During the night, it’s out of a horror movie. I was walking though one night with my camera and was amazing at how the yellow light from the bridge just lit up the leaves on the trees (and the ground). I shot this at an amazingly slow shutter speed–30 seconds–and in doing so picked up all the yellows of the leaves and the stars in the sky. (As an aside, you always know something is a long exposure when you pick up stars in the city).
Contrary to what you might assume, this was not a fall scene. This was shot in… July. The warm color temperature from the bridge light made the green leaves turn yellow. This was a gorgeous walk through a beautiful area.
