The Parking Garage Exhibit – Madeline Diane & Haesi Fanizzo Photo #5
About Share PurchaseThis is fairly obviously an outtake. Or it should be. While it isn’t beyond me to stage something like this, this particular image is real. And I can’t get over how much I like it.
Maddie is an absolute delight to work with both in front of the camera and on set. She is all kinds of trouble in the best possible ways. Shooting in the parking garage was a much slower process than usual because I was shooting everything off a tripod. Such things are necessary when you’re working in a dark parking garage at night. I had just set up my tripod for the first shot and the hair stylist noticed something about Haesi’s hair that she wanted to fix. Maddie stood there pretending to be a robot that had powered off while Haesi’s hair was fixed. I fired off this shot and ended up impressed as hell at the way it turned out.
As an aside, I tried cropping the image some–there is a lot of open space at the top and right of the photo–and it simply didn’t work. I think what makes this photo so wonderful is that Maddie is in her own little world, physically separated from everything and everyone around her. That empty space serves as the boundaries of her world. Crop it and her world disappears.
