The Woman in the Window
About Share PurchaseWhile scouting locations in Detroit, Michigan, I found an abandoned hospital near the Corktown neighborhood. The first two floors of the hospital were, save for one window, completely boarded up. That meant one thing: the first two floors were pitch black. As I walked up the south staircase, things changed as soon as I hit the third floor. That was where I saw this beautiful circular window (minus glass).
When I returned to this spot with model Lauren Rebecca Roth, I had a shot in mind where the circle was perfectly symmetrical and in the center of the photo. It didn’t take long to realize that that was physically impossible. The only place that I’d have been able to capture that angle was 10 feet off the ground. So I went up to the next landing and shot this. Frankly, I think this image turned out better than the one I had originally wanted.
One added bonus that I didn’t notice until I started editing this image is the fact that some helpful graffiti artist encouraged people (and specifically Nate) to enjoy the view of Lauren. I will talk about all the IV tubing we found on this landing at a later time.
