Under the El Tracks
About Share PurchaseI was doing a photo shoot with a Korean film director, Tae Kyong Kim, who was in town for the Chicago International Film Festival. For reasons that are still unclear to me, our photo shoot was being filmed for TV. The shoot was running late thanks to an assortment of different issues including a model having all her shoes stolen by a crazy roommate, the TV crew running late and us having lost our original location and being forced to relocate to a bathroom.
Because of these unforeseen delays, I hadn’t put enough money on my meter for where my car was parked. Not wanting to leave my camera alone on set, I grabbed it and ran out to pay for more parking. As I crossed Wabash, I looked north, saw this site and fired off a few photos. I didn’t even remember taking them until I began looking at my photos of the director and saw the images.
There is something so vibrant and alive about this picture. For me, it’s about the guy with the umbrella crossing the street. He is at just the right place in the image to give it a subject that isn’t overwhelming to the senses.
